Queer Crossings

Contemporary Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality

The Ethos Department of the University of Palermo is organising an International Conference on Queer Crossings: Contemporary Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality. The conference will take place on 18-19 June 2010, and it will include two keynote talks by Prof. Marco Pustianaz (Università del Piemonte Orientale, Italy) and Dr. Charlotte Ross (University of Birmingham, UK).

The aim of the conference is to map contemporary perspectives on sexualities at an interdisciplinary level. We welcome papers from scholars from academic fields such as education, comparative studies, media and communications, geography, art, literature, comparative literature, visual studies, psychology, sociology, anthropology, intercultural studies, women studies, gender studies and history, concerning the following topics:

  • Towards A Politics of Sexualities: Sexed And Sexualized Bodies, Gender Identities And Sexual Practises

 

  • Socio-Cultural (Re)Constructions Of  Sexualities: A Focus On Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer Identities

 

  • The Languages of Sexualities

 

  • Geographies Of Identities: Mapping Ethnic Sexualities In Transcultural Contact Zones

 

  • Gender and Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer Identities In The Literary Imagination: From Textual Representation To Cultural Criticism

 

  • Sexuality and Space

 

  • Queer Crosscultural Intersections

Call for paper

300 word abstracts should be submitted by 28h February 2010. Notification of acceptance will be given by 15th March 2010. If an abstract is accepted for the conference, a full draft paper or equivalent should be developed and submitted by 15th May 2010. The draft paper should be of no more than 8 or 9 pages long and ready for a 20 minute (maximum) presentation during the conference. 300 word abstracts should be in Word or RTF formats with the following information and in this order: author(s), affiliation, email address, title of abstract, body of abstract.

Please use plain text (Times Roman 12) and abstain from using footnotes and any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline). We acknowledge receipt and answer to all papers submitted.

 

Conference Registration Fee

The cost for attending the conference is €150. This includes:

  • conference registration fee
  • three copies of the e-Book (with ISBN)
  • support materials
  • coffee breaks and light lunches
  • accommodation (for the nights of June 17th and 18th)

All registration costs are to be paid by 15th April 2010.
